Could my betta have fin rot?

Question:

He lives by himself in a 2.5 gallon tank with a filter, heater, and a few plastic plants. The tank has been cycled; I use de-chlorinated water, and I test for pH, ammonia, nitrites, etc. regularly.

Answers:

I suggest buying some aquarium salt first of all, along with a fungal treatment or melafix (bettafix is the same as melafix, but different dosage). Simply treat the little guy with the meds and make sure to keep his water pretty darn clean. His fins will more than likely grow back with the proper treatments. Good luck :)

fin rot is not a fast killer, so if you notice in a week or two that's it's getting worse, get him some meds. I recommend API liquid fungus cure.

Since you just got him today, im sure your betta will look better in a day or so. Every time a betta is transported it gets torn up. Fin rot is when there is visible rotting on the fin. White fuzzy mold growing on fins, and fins being eaten away. There is a general cure for this in the pet supply store.

go to a pet store and get drops to put in the tank, follow the steps on the bottle or talk to someone that works their for information on how to do it correctly.

Here is another resource on betta diseases.the fin rot is usually black in colorCERTAIN MEDICATIONS (ANTIBIOTICS, METHYLENE BLUE) WILL DISRUPT BIOLOGICAL FILTRATION ETC.
